The Technische
Universität Darmstadt is one of the best-known
universities in Germany, in particular in the engineering
disciplines.
The chair for "Multimedia
Communications Lab (KOM)" at the Technische Universität
Darmstadt, headed by Prof Ralf Steinmetz, was founded
in 1996. It is active in the communication and multimedia
systems research areas. KOM cooperates closely with
various industry R&D laboratories and participates
in European projects such as the “M3I - Market
Managed Multi-service Internet”, “MMAPPS
– Market Managed of Peer to Peer Services”,
“E-Net”, “E-Next” and “CONTENT“
projects among others. KOM has currently 41 research
staff members. Research areas are knowledge media including
technology enhanced learning, networked gaming, serious
gaming, peer-to-peer systems, IT architectures, quality
of service in broadband and in mobile/ad hoc networks,
and multimedia services and media distribution. The
results of this research are published and presented
in both national and international scientific journals
and conferences.
The serious gaming group
has been set up December 2008 based on the former Digital
Storytelling group at ZGDV and is headed by Dr. Stefan
Göbel.
In 80Days, TUD takes the role of ZGDV and is responsible
for all issues related to adaptive, interactive storytelling
. This includes the development of a theoretical framework
for adaptive storytelling, the development of a Story
Engine and a Story Editor.
